Pakistan junior hockey team to visit Egypt and Malaysia in August and November
The Pakistan Hockey Federation has decided to send its young guns to Egypt and Malaysia in the coming months of August and November respectively, where they will play a five-match Test series against Egypt and will participate in First Sultan Ibrahim Cup
Hockey Tournament in which five other teams will also be among the contestants.
“The PHF has finalised a 5-test match series against the Egyptian junior hockey team in the month of August. The dates are yet to be finalised,” Mohammad Asif Bajwa, the Secretary General of PHF, stated about the forth coming tour of the Pakistan junior
hockey tournament on Tuesday.
One of the officials of Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) stated that the visit to Egypt will be valuable and of a great help for the junior athletes as they will have an experience and exposure of the game at an international level.
“Although Egypt is not a world-class side, the tour will be fruitful because it will give valuable international experience to our youngsters. The PHF is emphasising on youngsters to form a solid back-up for the senior side. So far the response has been
positive,” the official stated regarding the upcoming tests for the junior Greenshirts.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan junior hockey squad will also visit Malaysia, where they will feature in the Six-Nation Sultan Ibrahim Cup Hockey Tournament which is going to be played from November 5 and will conclude on November 12 in Johor. This will be the inaugural
edition of the Sultan Ibrahim Cup Hockey Tournament.
The Malaysian Hockey Federation (MHF) had sent an invitation to Pakistan junior hockey team for the participation in the event which has been accepted by the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) and they have confirmed the participation of the junior Greenshirts
in the event.
“The PHF has confirmed to the organisers the participation of our junior team in the event,” Asif Bajwa further added to his views.
The Pakistan Under-18 team finished third, despite of some record making performance in the recently held Junior Asia Cup hockey tournament in Singapore.
