Pakistan junior hockey trials for Egypt series postponed – Hockey News
Pakistan junior men’s hockey team is currently training for the five-match test series in Cairo, Egypt in August. The final trials, which will be held for two days, have been rescheduled by Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) to take place on July 28 to 29 at
the National Hockey Stadium in Lahore.
The squad short-listed from the 28 camp attendants will be officially revealed on July 29 after testing the players in their final assessment.
According to the team’s head coach, Rana Mujahid, the team had shown great potential in their exhilarating show-off of conquering over their Asian counterparts during the Junior Asia Cup that was recently held in Singapore.
However, luck was not by their side in the semi-final against Korea when they missed by a close one-goal trail to make it into the finals.
The coach shared the fact that the federation is striving for providing the young talent with more of the international taste of hockey so that they soon be prepared for joining up the senior national side.
One of the officials from PHF commented, “In spite of the fact that Egypt is not a strong team but the series against Egypt will be very beneficial for our junior players.”
Even though the Egypt tour has been confirmed by PHF for August, the match fixtures have not yet been released.
Following this tour, the junior side will also feature in the introductory six-nation hockey tournament, the Sultan Ibrahim Cup that is to be held in Johor, Malaysia from November 5 to 12.
As reported by the PHF official, “We have confirmed the Malaysian Hockey Federation that we would be sending our team to participate in the Sultan Ibrahim Cup.”
The players are being trained at an individual as well as group level under the coaches Danish Kaleem, Ahmed Alam and Anjum Saeed that are headed by the former Olympian Rana Mujahid, who is serving as the chief coach as well as the team manager.
In a recent interview, Mujahid admitted that the main focus for the team currently is to qualify for the Junior Hockey World Cup.
