Pakistan’s former captain batsman, Shoaib Malik has pledged to make a comeback in the national squad after he was not picked in the 30-member preliminary squad for the World Cup.
Malik, who led the team from 2007 to 2009, was ignored by the selectors because he was not cleared by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) integrity committee. The committee was put in charge of looking into the financial details of certain players. The players
included Shoaib Malik, Kamran Akmal, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danish-Kaneria-c1314 and Rana Naved-ul-Hasan. The ICC suspected the players of getting bribes from match-fixers.
Yesterday, the committee cleared Kamran Akmal and Rana Naved while Malik and Kaneria failed to get the green signal for selection in the national team. After the declaration of the integrity committee, the selection committee had no other option but to ignore
the two players because the selection committee was ordered by the PCB not to select players without the consent of the integrity committee.
After the decision of the selection committee, Malik, while talking to the press, said, "It is hugely disappointing not to be selected in the World Cup squad and what is more strange is that neither the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB) nor the national selectors
have given any reason for ignoring me."
However, it was reported in a local newspaper that Malik failed to explain the presence of 90,000 pounds in his UK bank account when he met the integrity committee two days ago.
The batsman had been performing well in the domestic circuit and there were speculations that because of his good form he would be selected for the World Cup. He said, "I was mentally prepared to be selected as I am in good form and am performing well in
domestic cricket. But I don't know why they didn't pick me. Missing the World Cup is a big setback for me but my career is certainly not over and I can still continue to play for another five to six years, so I know that I can make a comeback."
Malik put to rest the rumours that he was not a team player and had differences with the members of the preliminary national squad. He clarified that he was ready to play under any captain because he wanted to play for Pakistan. He said, "I am ready to play
under any captain and offer him full support."
