Pakistan minister Rehman Malik invites teams to tour Pakistan
Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik has announced that the country is now a safe place for foreign teams to come and play cricket.
Malik while talking to the media stated that foreign teams need not to worry about their security in the terror-hit country anymore.
He said, “Foreign teams can come and play in Pakistan without any fear as the security situation is much better and the govt would provide complete security to foreign teams.”
Malik was at the Islamabad Sports Complex for penning down his comments on a wish wall made for Pakistan cricket team, which is currently in Bangladesh preparing for the ICC World Cup 2011.
After inking his comments, Malik stressed that the whole nation was wishing the best to the national team. The Interior Minister believed that the national team, under the leadership of the flamboyant Shahid Afridi, had the potential to lift its second World
Cup title.
“Our cricket has full potential to grab the auspicious Cup, our team will bring Cup when they come back,” he said.
Cricket in Pakistan has suffered for almost two years now ever since the terrorist attacks on the Sri Lankan team in Lahore in 2009.
It was only due to the presence of mind by the driver of the bus that saved the lives of the Sri Lankans when he managed to speed away from the terrorists. In the attack, seven Sri Lankans were injured while eight Pakistani security personnel lost their
lives.
After the heinous attack, the series was called off and the Sri Lankans were immediately airlifted to their native country. Pakistan has been a no go area ever since and no international sporting event has taken place in the country.
The International Cricket Council was forced to take away the hosting rights of the 2011 World Cup from Pakistan because of security concerns. However, it was decided by the ICC to give Pakistan its share of income from the mega event.
Due to lack of any international cricket in Pakistan, the cricket crazy nation is desperate to get foreign teams back in the country. These days, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033
