Pakistan name Mohammad Yousuf in ODI squad
Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Yousuf has been named in their 16-man ODI and Twenty20 International squad to face England this September.
While Yousuf has now been welcomed back to the fold after having an indefinite ban slapped on him earlier in the year, the same can’t be said for another past skipper in Younus http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319, who is yet to gain clearance to play after also receiving an indefinite suspension from international cricket by the PCB early in 2010.
Yousuf, who had not played for his country since January, was rushed back into the Pakistan Test squad following their 354-run capitulation to England in the first of the current four Test series, arriving in England on the eve of the second Test at Edgbaston only to be left out of the playing XI for that nine wicket loss.
The 30-year-old’s exile from the side he’d captained to a winless 2009/10 tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 before his subsequent banishment (which precipitated Yousuf to announce what was ultimately a short-lived retirement) finally ended at The Oval last week.
Yousuf’s addition to the team for that match paid immediate dividends, as he helped to shore up a fragile batting order with scores of 56 and 33 as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 claimed a four-wicket victory over their hosts to ensure the four-Test series remains alive heading into the concluding match at Lord’s, which begins this week.
The news from the selection table was not as happy for Shoaib Malik, who was dumped from the Pakistan playing XI for the third Test at The Oval, and whose name is one glaring omission from the limited overs squad for their upcoming matches against England.
The visitors will, however, again have the services of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 for the series, after his abrupt departure from both the Test captaincy and the five-day format altogether after Pakistan’s 150-run loss in the first Test against Australia on neutral territory in England this summer, with the all-rounder to take over the captaincy reins from Salman Butt for the ODIs and Twenty20 against England next month.
Pakistan’s full ODI and Twenty20 squad is: Shahid Afridi (captain), Salman Butt, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahzaib-Hasan-c2488, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Yousuf, Azhar Ali, Umar Akmal, Kamran Akmal, Fawad Alam, Abdul Razzaq, Mohammad Asif, Mohammad Aamer, Umar Gul, Saeed Ajmal, Shoaib Akhtar and Wahab Riaz.
