Pakistan national hockey team for the Asian Champions Trophy to be selected on Thursday
Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) selection committee consisting of chairman Hanif Khan, Arshad Ali and Khalid Bashir, is likely to select the eighteen-member national squad on Thursday, August 19 for the inaugural edition of the Asian Champions Trophy to
be played in Ordos, China from September 3 to 11. The inclusion of a number of young players is expected in the squad.
“With a few changes expected in this squad, the PHF has also decided not to experiment after this event. The selectors may opt for new faces to check their bench- strength which will give a clearer picture for the Champions Trophy that takes place at the
end of the year,” an official of the PHF stated about the selection of some of the youngsters in the team for the event.
Meanwhile, the selection trials for the Pakistan national Men’s hockey team, which will feature in the inaugural edition of the Asian Champions Trophy to be held in Ordos, China, from September 3 to 11, will be conducted at Naseer Bunda Stadium in Islamabad
on August 18.
“The performance of the players will be observed by the national selection committee comprising Hanif Khan (chairman), Arshad Ali Chowdhry (member) and Khalid Bashir (member),” a PHF official told about the trials in which the players training in the ongoing
training camp will participate.
The training camp is presently in full momentum under the supervision of Michel van den Heuvel the Dutch coach of Pakistan national hockey squad and Khawaja Junaid, the team manager who also confirmed the participation of eight players in the camp from the
junior side that recently visited Egypt.
The players that will feature during the trials include the following:
Muhammad Imran, Muhammad Irfan, Imran Butt, Muhammad Rizwan Junior, Waseem Ahmed, Rashid Mehmood, Fareed Ahmed, Shakeel Abbasi, Muhammad Zubair, Syed Kashif Shah, Muhammad Tousiq, Muhammad Waqas, Abdul Haseem Khan, Imran Shah, Waqas Akbar,
Muhammad Khalid, Muhammad Rizwan Senior, Muhammad Imran Junior, Muhammad Irfan Junior, Mazhar Abbas, Bilal Qadir, Muhammad Umar Bhutta, Shafqat Rasool, Kashif Javed, Ali Shan and Arslan Qadir.
