Dean http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jones-c69217, the former Australian cricketer, has urged Pakistan team to improve their batting and fielding if they want to become one of the leading teams of international cricket.
Having produced a number of great fast bowlers and quality spinners, bowling has never been a problem for the Green Shirts. They have also enjoyed the services of many brilliant batsmen over the years but it has been an area of concern in recent years, with the Men in Green being extremely vulnerable, especially while chasing targets.
Many solid young batsmen have emerged through the ranks of domestic cricket since the last four years, with the likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Akmal-c94595 making a mark at the highest stage of the game. These are good signs for Pakistan cricket but the youngsters need to be more consistent in all formats of the game.
While talking to Pakpassion, the former Test player expressed that the Pakistani batsmen are extremely talented and have the ability to take the attack to the opposition. However, Jones is of the opinion that a batsman must possess a proper defensive technique, in order to regularly deliver the goods against high-class bowlers.
The former cricketer from Victoria believes that one of the reasons behind http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482’s downfall as a batsman has been his reluctance to give respect to bowlers.
“They know how to whack a ball, that's for sure. That's in their blood. It's also important that in your blood to know how to defend. When you play against quality bowlers like Steyn, the Australian quicks, you're defensive skills need to be sorted out,” Jones expressed. “It's sort of judged in the culture what beautiful big shots played down the ground like Afridi. See Afridi can't play that well now, because he doesn't like playing defensively.”
Apart from batting, Jones feels that the Green Shirts need to understand the importance of fielding in the modern-day sport as a good catch or a nice run-out can change the complexion of a game.
“Majority of them don't enjoy going out there and taking a blinder or throwing the stumps down - doing all those types of things,” he added.
