Pakistan players left out of the IPL auction once again
Pakistan cricketers are missing out on the auction of the Indian Premier League after no names were included in the list of players up for auction. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 players were given a snub last year as well as no player was picked by any IPL franchise and it appears
that this discriminatory attitude towards cricketers from the neighbouring country continues, despite calls from the chairman of the PCB to revive Indo-Pak cricket ties.
In a list of 416 players, no Pakistan player has been selected to render his services in the 2011 edition of the IPL which is expected to take place in the month of April and May.
The Pakistani cricket players took part in the first edition of the IPL back in 2008, however in the wake of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 attacks it was learnt that government had pressurized the franchises not to select any Pakistan players. They were ignored in the last
edition of the IPL as well.
When an IPL official was asked about the issue, he said that the PCB had not forwarded the names of any players for the auction. “The rules stipulate that a player must apply through his home board if he wanted to be put up for the auction. No names were
received from Pakistan.”
Other star players who will be possibly missing out from the fourth edition of the IPL is the Australian trio of Ricky Ponting, vice captain Michael http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 and the pace bowler Mitchell Johnson. Several franchises chose to retain old players as well. Sachin
Tendulkar, Harbajhan Singh, Kieron Pollard and Lasith Malinga have been retained by the Mumbai Indian franchise.
Chennai Super Kings made the decision of retaining captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Murali-Vijay-c78035 and the South African all – rounder Albie Morkel.
Shane Warne and Shane http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 have also been retained by their respective franchises. These twelve players who have been retained by their teams will not be available for auction. However the same franchises, will be losing out on auction money as a result.
Interestingly, this year’s IPL will be the first to be held without the founder Lalit Modi who can be credited for designing and making the Indian Premier League. He was thrown out by the BCCI over allegations of misappropriation of funds.
The chief cricketing body of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 has registered a case against Modi for misappropriation of almost 4.68 billion rupees or 106 million dollars. He also faces multiple other charges and is currently staying in England.
