Pakistan report poor umpiring to the ICC - Cricket News Update
Pakistan has lodged a complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) over poor umpiring during the recently concluded Galle Test, where the Men in Green suffered a heavy 209-run defeat at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
Australian Umpire http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ian-James-Gould-c63876 had a bad first Test in the ongoing series, making at least10 controversial errors, which mostly went against the visitors.
"Cheema and Whatmore told Boon that the Pakistani players had concerns over the umpiring standards as while one or two bad decisions were acceptable but the majority of bad decisions went against them in the test," the source revealed.
Ironically, the complaint is made at a time when ICC’s Chief Executive Committee (CEC) in an embarrassing move, has decided not to make the Decision Review System (DRS) mandatory.
The ICC’s top committee wanted to make the technology mandatory however, their hopes received strong opposition from the powerful Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 ( BCCI), which persisted with their previous stance of letting the respective boards decide
whether to use DRS in a particular series, further forcing a withdrawal of the governing body’s newest recommendation,.
Pakistan’s captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Hafeez-c76898 had earlier expressed his views, urging the authorities to look into the matter. "It should be made compulsory for every game," the Pakistan opener said.
Last October, when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 played its home series in UAE against the Lankans, they enforced the use of the DRS after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) became the first cricketing body to obtain the system with the help of Pepsi – their premier sponsors.
Sri Lanka however, refused to do the same, giving the high cost of the system as a reason, but the Lankans had implemented DRS during their home series against England in March this year. The Sri Lankan Board’s excuse did not go well with the Pakistan’s
coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Davenell-Frederick-Whatmore-c52571, who slammed the selective use of the review system.
Former Pakistan Captain and wicketkeeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rashid-Latif-c84084 was surprise over the BCCI’s sustained refusal on the issue. "What surprises me is the ICC's continuing unclear stance on the compulsory use of the UDRS. This is damaging for the sport and we are seeing
the effects in the series with Sri Lanka. The Lankans had the system in place for their series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 but not for Pakistan," Latif said.
The source further disclosed that a report on the umpiring had already been sent to the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 by the Pakistan team management.
