Pakistan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-Lloyd-Hemp-c53059 plan to boycott ICC awards – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saeed-Ajmal-c87859 from the list of candidates for the player of the year award.
However, the cricket board will not be sending any officials in the awards for the sake of expressing their outrage towards http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625’s decision.
A spokesman for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said, “We have our strong reservations over Ajmal's omission from the awards list but have decided not to boycott the ceremony but we will only be sending some squad members to the event."
The awards will be held in Colombo on Saturday, which is currently the hub of T20 players from all over the world as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 is hosting the ICC World T20.
Ajmal, who became the top wicket-taker in Test cricket this year, has not been included by the ICC in the list of test cricketer of the year, ODI player of the year or international cricketer of the year.
The decision received intense criticism in Pakistan, where the board and even the national parliament expressed their frustration.
The parliament even suggested the board to boycott the awards in order to show their disappointment.
However, with Pakistan already facing isolation due to lack of international cricket in the country, a standoff with ICC would do more harm than good to cricket in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, ICC’s former president http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ehsan-Mani-c55791 while arguing that Ajmal was a deserving candidate for the player of the year award said, “A mistake has been made somewhere and the ICC should accept this because Ajmal's performance speaks for itself. He was definitely a deserving candidate for one of the award categories."
However, he criticised PCB’s any idea of a boycott and insisted that the board should raise its voice in the next ICC board meeting instead of reacting childishly on the matter.
“Boycotting the ceremony will marginalise us. The PCB should use other fronts to protest the decision and avoid such embarrassment in the future," opined Mani in an interview with Express Tribune.
Pakistan will play its first match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 in the ICC World T20 on September 23, at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
