http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 skipper Shahid Afridi has better hopes for New Zealand tour
Pakistan's ODI and Twenty20 skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 tour.
The skipper admitted that the players selected for the series are the best talent available for selection at the moment. Afridi also revealed that he plans to open the batting in the T20s from now on.
Afridi clarified that the statements he made last week regarding the absence of senior players (Shoaib Malik and Kamran Akmal) from the squad had been misunderstood by certain quarters. He said that he was not disappointed with the team and did not think
that his side doesn’t have a good chance in the World Cup due to the fact that certain players are not being selected on the suspicion of their involvement in spot-fixing.
Speaking to the media in Lahore, the Pakistani skipper said that he was focusing on his own performance as well and was working on the weaknesses in his team. He praised http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Javed-Miandad-c66580 for getting involved with the team as the batting consultant. Afridi admitted
that having an experienced player like Miandad in the training camp will help the lads in improving their game to a great level.
Afridi said that he was aware of the fact that Pakistan cricket has been struggling for the last year and the country now needs some good news from their most cherished sport.
Earlier, Afridi had expressed disappointment over the exclusion of experienced players Shoaib Malik and Kamran Akmal from the squad for New Zealand. The skipper wanted the presence of senior players because in the absence of Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif
the seniors are the only ones who can be a beacon of hope for the men in green in the World Cup.
In the absence of the tainted opening bowling pair of Amir and Asif, the bulk of the bowling attack will be carried by Umar Gul, Shoaib Akhtar and Abdul Razzaq and the presence of Malik will create another spin bowling option along with Saeed Ajmal, while
Kamran Akmal is great with the bat that adds strength to the batting line-up of Pakistan.
PCB has so far not announced the squad for the World Cup which means that there might still be time for these two senior players to make a comeback in the team.
