Pakistan team responded well in T20s, reckons head coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Davenell-Frederick-Whatmore-c52571 – Cricket News Update
Pakistan head coach Dav Whatmore, on Sunday lavished praise on his side for their recent impressive performances against Australia in the lead up to the World T20 championship, commencing in Sri Lanka in less than 10 days.
"I’m very much delighted," said Whatmore while speaking to media reporters on the eve of the inconsequential third T20 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, on Monday.
"We played consistent cricket and the players have responded well after the ODIs because there was just one day in between the change of format," he added further.
Going into the three-match T20 series on the back of 2-1 ODI series defeat at the hands of mighty Aussies, the Men in Green bounced back quickly, winning the opening T20 comprehensively by seven wickets. They then clinched a sensational super over victory against the Kangaroos on Friday, to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, with one match to go.
Whatmore, who took over as Pakistan’s head coach in March this year, said that it was good to have a super over experience in the lead up to the World T20 championship, which begins in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 on September 18 and will run till October 7.
"We can't do any more than to win two out of two,” said the 58-year-old former Australian cricketer. “It was an exciting finish but it's good to have the experience of the super over leading up to the World Twenty20," he added further.
Whatmore, who has previously coached Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at the international level, said that the harmony in Pakistan team is their success mantra.
Pakistan have been placed in Group D, alongside http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747, in the 12-team global event. Whatmore said that they are not taking their group stage opponents lightly and will field their best combination, keeping in view the playing conditions in Kandy, the venue for their group games.
“We don't have easy opponents because we think all the teams are tough," said Whatmore. "I’m sure of the combination. We certainly need to know the conditions in Kandy where our first two matches are to pick the best combination,” the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 coach concluded.
