The position is vacant since February 2012, after the resignation of former bowling coach, Aqib Javed, who opted to accept an offer from the Emirates Cricket Board and consequently became the Head Coach of UAE national cricket team
“We don’t want to rush the appointment for an important position as this – it has to be the right person,” the head of the coach-hunting committee Intikhab Alam said, while talking to pakpassioin.com
PCB had advertised the vacant post in March and in response, received eight applications, which included local and foreign candidates. The board however, has not given a green signal to any of the applicants – taking time to choose the best option for the
national side.
“We have two very good coaches in place and we want to ensure that the bowling coach is also of a high caliber,” added Alam.
According to sources, the local applicants include the likes of former Pakistani player http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mushtaq-Ahmed-c78096, who is currently England’s bowling consultant, has also applied for
the post. The ex-spinner was reported to have met PCB chairman Zaka http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashraf-c46397 but the chairman denied any such speculations.
“I think no one (from the PCB) has met him in recent days. At the moment anything you hear (about this issue) are rumours,” added Zaka.
Among the foreign hopefuls, the former Bangladesh bowling coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ian-Leslie-Pont-c63901, and the Maldives coach Bazeegh Zaka have shown interest to work with the Men in Green.
Earlier, PCB appointed bowling legend, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sarfraz-Nawaz-Malik-c88831, as a bowling consultant for training the young crop at the National Cricket Academy. The 63-year-old was further handed over the responsibility of guiding the Green Shirts, prior to their wining Asia
Cup 2012 campaign, in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747.
As for now, the national team is preparing for the upcoming tour under the guidance of newly appointed foreign coaches, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Davenell-Frederick-Whatmore-c52571 and Julien Fountain. Both overseas trainers have completely adjusted to the local conditions, and appear committed to achieve
success with the current squad.
