Pakistan to take on United States in polo match in Saratoga Springs
The polo players from Pakistan will play against Untied States of America on July 17, 2011 at the Saratoga Polo Club situated in Saratoga Springs, New York in order to extend the bilateral relations in the field of sports.
In a bid to develop soften part of the Pakistanis, particularly with Pakhtuns and the Tourism Corporation of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in joint venture with a US based polo club, namely USPPC, are thinking to organise a tournament in New York. The fixture
will help to build up an understanding between the two countries regarding the culture and history of Pakhtuns.
It is vital to mention here that Pakistan has had one of the highest polo arenas in the world, namely Shandur Polo Ground. On the other hand, the US has had few historic polo clubs, including the Saratoga Springs and International Polo Club Palm Beach.
By hosting the Pak-US polo fixture, the USPPC will uphold the sport in the region besides establishing a riding academy. Additionally, the club will also provide financial support to promote the sport in the region. It will also work on vast range
of developmental projects including formation of Communication Panorama and R&D in Research of new Medical and Green Technologies.
Syed Aqil Shah, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Minister, while speaking to the media stated that real culture of the region will be promoted across the globe. In his views, the polo pros from Pakistan will deliver best in the fixture. It is vital to
mention here that the minister as a leader of the delegation will brief the US people regarding history and culture of the people. The minister stated, “Meetings with people there is going to help improve people-to people understanding.”
Meanwhile, the Managing Partner at the US-Pak Polo Club, namely E. Nisar Khan, who is of Pakistani origin and US business tycoon, is in contact with representatives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Corporation in this regard.
Talking to the media from US, he stated that they would promote the regional culture in Europe. He said, “By this, we are hoping to open avenues for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. I think the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa should take a lead as we can and will
open up doors through this venue.”
In his views, the polo match can start a new phase in connection with the provision of modern technology, education and construction of new arenas in the province.
It is vital to mention here that polo matches were used to resolve the conflicts between tribes in past. To follow the old times, the Pakistani and US polo players will contest the fixture in order to enlarge mutual understanding. It is also expected
that few of Pakistani singers will be part of the delegation that will perform during the opening ceremony.
