Pakistan to use DRS in Australia series – Cricket News Update
Pakistan Cricket Board on Sunday revealed its decision to implement the Decision Review System in its upcoming limited-overs series against Australia, to be held on the neutral venues of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033, next month.
A senior PCB official told media reporters in Lahore that it has almost secured a sponsorship deal for using the DRS technology in the upcoming One Day International series against the mighty Aussies, in the UAE.
"The sponsors will tie up directly with the broadcasters to cover expenses for using the technology," said the official.
Despite a number of calls from its member boards, the International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) in its recent board meeting in Kuala Lumpur, decided against making the use of technology mandatory, leaving it up to the individual boards to decide whether to use
DRS in their bilateral series or not.
The PCB official said that they being the hosts for next month’s ODI series between Pakistan and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, have decided to use the review system in all the three one-day Internationals, adding that his board sees the Australia series as a good platform
to back the use of technology in international matches, for improved umpiring standards.
"We're very much in favour of having the DRS in ODI and Test matches and we see the Australia series as a good platform to promote the technology," said the official.
Pakistan had earlier used the DRS in their last two Test and ODI series against Sri Lanka and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749. That was also done through sponsorship deals.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 did not use the Decision Review System in the return leg of the bilateral series last month, and it affected Pakistan the most, as a number of controversial decisions in the Galle Test went against the men in green, eventually costing
them not only the match, but also the series.
The limited-overs series between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 and Australia, comprising three ODIs and an equal number of T20s, will be played between August 28 and September 10.
The men in green are next scheduled to tour http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in January next year and the Pakistan cricket board is hoping CSA to use the technology for the full series.
"The host country has the right to decide whether it wants to offer use of DRS to the touring side but as far as we know South Africa use the DRS in their home series," said the PCB official.
