In a bid to revive cricketing ties between Pakistan and India, the Pakistan Cricket Board is vying for a short one-day series between the two countries this year.
Subhan Ahmed, PCB’s Chief Operating Officer, stated that the framework for such a series will be discussed in a meeting with the officials of Board of Control for Cricket in India.
Subhan further added that they were aware that a Test series would not be possible, given the tight International schedule of the Indian team, but a three match or a five match series will be proposed and discussed.
"It is not possible to play a full Test series this year that is obvious to us. But we are definitely keen on at least having a three match or five match series sometime this year in Pakistan or at a neutral venue to kick off the revival process,” he stated.
After the Indian Premier League, the Indian team is scheduled for a tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, the series will comprise of one Twenty20, three Test matches, and five One Day Internationals. After which, a subsequent tour of England is next on the agenda for the
Indian team, starting July; the England team will then visit http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in November for a series.
The Men in Blue are then scheduled to travel to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 for a series from December 2011 to January 2012.
According to ICC’s Future Tours Program, Pakistan is scheduled to tour India in March-April of 2012 for a full Test series.
According to Subhan Ahmed, the Pakistan Prime Minister, Yousuf Raza Gillani has given clearance to the PCB for revival of cricketing ties between the two nations.
Cricketing ties between the two nations were suspended following the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Attacks in 2008.
The Indian PM invited his Pakistani counterpart to watch the ICC World Cup 2011 Semi-Final in Mohali between India and Pakistan, where resumption of ties was discussed at length.
“What we realise is that the Indian Board is tied up with the Indian Premier League and only after that is over would they would also be able to focus on the issue of reviving bilateral cricket ties with Pakistan," Subhan expressed.
After the 2009 Lahore attacks on the Sri Lankan team visiting Pakistan, countries are apprehensive about sending their men to Pakistan. Subhan added that a neutral venue would be selected if the Indians were unwilling to play in Pakistan.
"Our first priority is to convince the Indians to come to Pakistan for the short series but if that is not working out we have not ruled out the option of neutral venues," he said.
The PCB Chief Operative also added that everything depended on the talks between the two boards, which are scheduled to take place in June this year.
