Pakistan has urged India to make ‘fool proof security arrangements’ for its players during the ongoing ICC, World Cup 2011.
Commenting on media reports regarding planned terrorist attacks on World cup venues, Pakistani Foreign Office spokesperson Tehmina Janjua said:
“Pakistan being a victim of terrorism takes all such reports seriously. We hope that India will make foolproof arrangements for the security of Cricket World Cup,”
“Pakistan had already conveyed its concerns about vituperative statements being made within India about participation of Pakistan’s cricket team in the cup,.”
Cricket’s premier tournament is heading towards the end of its first Group stage; the quarter-final round will start from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/March-c74391 23rd. It is a possibility that the Pakistani team may play in India in the next round, should it advance.
The Pakistan government and Pakistan’s Cricket team management are concerned about the security issues for Pakistani players in India. Skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 has already stated publicly that his team does not want to play in India.
To make matters complicated the Shiv Sena, a right wing Hindu party, has also threatened the Pakistani team from visiting India. A Shiv Sena spokesperson said that they would not allow Pakistan to play in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820, unless its head Bal Thackeray allowed it.
Meanwhile, the American state department has asked its citizens to be extra vigilant.
“While the US government has no specific threat information regarding the Cricket World Cup, large, high-profile events of this nature can be targets for terrorist attacks,” the US State Department warned.
However, the International Cricket Council is satisfied with the security measures taken by the Indian administration. Tournament director, Ratnakar Shetty has said that no changes have been made to security arrangements so far, and further measures will be made if needed.
