Pakistan v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Afghanistan-c745: Pakistan ‘A’ all set to take on Afghanistan
The Pakistan ‘A’ team is all set to play a three-match one-day series against the touring Afghanistan national team. The series is set to begin from 25, May 2011. The first match will be played at Faisalabad, the second on 27 May at Rawalpindi while the
third match is set to be played on 29 May at Abbottabad.
Discarded left-arm pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sohail-Tanvir-c90665 has been name as the captain of the Pakistan squad and the player is upbeat about his appointment. He believes that with this appointment the selection committee has expressed their trust in him and if he performs well
he will be able to make a comeback in the national squad.
“The fact that I’ve been named in the ‘A’ squad means that I’m just one step away from making my comeback for the national team,” he said while talking to newsmen.
Tanvir hoped the series will go smoothly because it will be the first time since 2009 that any international team will be playing on Pakistani soil. Two years back the touring Sri Lankan team was ambushed in a failed terrorist attack in which eight Pakistani
nationals were killed while seven Sri Lankans were injured, the series was called off and the Lankans were flown back to their country marking an end to international cricket in the country.
The incident had pressured the International Cricket Council (ICC) to strip the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747.
Speaking on the prospects of the series, Tanvir said, “This is a huge opportunity for Pakistan to get cricket back in the country. When it comes to situations like these, the results don’t really matter. We just hope the series goes smoothly and acts as
a signal for teams to start touring http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755.”
The series caught attention of the media after a military operation by the United States of America in Abbottabad which killed world’s most wanted fugitive Osama Bin Ladin. Critics have argued that perhaps the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should consider
relocating the final match.
However, the PCB has decided not to make any changes in the venue and the match will be played as planned.
