Pakistani bowlers avoided the scare of an upset and bowled out Canada 46 runs short of their target in a group ‘A’ fixture of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 at the R. Premadasa, Colombo. Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi led his team from the front and grabbed
a five wicket haul to destruct the Canadian hopes of dismantling the green shirts.
Chasing a below standard target set by Pakistan, Canada lost a couple of early wickets to allow the green shirts to dominate them. The middle order fought very hard and at one stage http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748 was in a very good position with only three wickets down for 104
runs on the board. However they failed to cope with some high class spin bowling in shape of Shahid Afridi and Saeed Ajmal and as a result the whole team was bundled out for a mere 138 runs in the 43rd over of the innings.
Middle order batsman Jimmy Hansra remained the top scorer with 43 runs which came off 75 balls with the help of 4 fours and a massive six. Zubin Surkari and skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashish-Bagai-c46284 were also off to fighting starts but failed to carry on.
Star of the show for the green shirts was the captain who took five wickets after giving away only 23 runs in his 10 overs. Canadian batsmen failed to read his wrong-ones and the change of pace. He was named as the Player of the Match for his inspirational
bowling spell.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saeed-Ajmal-c87859 also picked up a wicket each to halt Canada’s progress.
The standard of umpiring in the match was not up to the international standards as four decisions within the first 15 overs of the Canadian innings were overturned because of the Umpire’s Decision Review System (UDRS).
There was a scare of an upset after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 was right on the button when he said in the presentation
ceremony that it is a wakeup call for us.
