http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 v Sri Lanka 1st ODI – Sri Lankan bowlers to watch out for
After suffering a defeat in the Test series, the Lankan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 will look to bounce back in the five match One-Day International series, which will begin with a game at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday, November 11,
2011.
The Lankan team is going through a rebuilding phase, and their bowling brigade is loaded with youngsters. Apart from a couple of pacers, the rest of the bowling roster is mostly inexperienced.
The tourists will be hoping to capitalize on the element of surprise, as Pakistani batsmen would not be aware what the Lankan bowlers have in store for them. However, the Men in Green have played against the likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SL-Malinga-c2540
and Dilhara Fernando before and are fully aware of the threat posed by them.
Lasith Malinga is probably one of the most feared bowlers in limited overs cricket today. The right-arm pacer bowls at around 150 km/http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hugh-Morris-c63550 and toe crushing yorkers are his key weapons against all batsmen.
Malinga keeps the batsmen on their toes and makes them play every delivery. The pacer does not require any assistance from the pitch and this makes him even more dangerous. The bowler generally bowls in swinging deliveries; however,
he is fully capable of bowling away swingers as well.
Malinga retired from Test cricket in August 2010, as the heavy work load of playing in the longer version was having a toll on his body. The 28-year-old is at pinnacle of his career and was named as player of the tournament in
recently concluded Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20), in which he helped http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians lift their maiden trophy.
The Lankan heart throb is one wicket away from reaching a personal milestone of 150 ODI wickets. Considering the form he is in there is no doubt that the pacer would get it on Friday.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chaminda-Vaas-c1223, but now he
leads the bowling attack along with Malinga.
Fernando has been in and out of team but there is no denying the talent the lanky pacer has. The 32-year-old likes playing against the Men in Green and maintains a slightly better average, of 28.33 as opposed to his career figures
of 29.78, against them.
The pacer makes use of his height and bouncers are his weapon of choice. Fernando usually bowls with the new ball but Sri Lanka in the past has used him as a first change bowler as well.
Jeevan Mendis can prove to be the wild card for Lankans in Friday’s fixture. Though, the cricketer plays in the team as an all-rounder, his left-arm leg-spin bowling can be useful against the hosts.
Pakistani batsmen have historically struggled against quality left-arm spinners, and if Mendis bowls in the right channel he can certainly trouble oppositions batting ranks.
