http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758: 3rd Test at Sharjah, Day-2 – Second Session Report
After some brilliant batting by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691, the Sri Lankan batting order collapsed in a disappointing show, as the islanders reached 359 for the loss of eight wickets at tea on the second day of the final Test at Sharjah, on
Friday, November 4, 2011.
In the middle session, the tourists lost four wickets, including Sangakkara – who played an anchor role in Sri Lanka’s first innings. Soon after lunch, the former skipper lost his wicket to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saeed-Ajmal-c87859 after smashing a wonder knock of 144 runs.
After starting off the second session on 300/4, the Lankan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 could not continue the good work and lost two crucial wickets before drinks. Having lost Sangakkara, the visiting side was a bit cautious and that helped the Green Shirts impose pressure.
Kosala Kulasekara was the second man to be dismissed after lunch. Ajmal trapped him in front of the wickets when he was looking solid on 15. By grabbing two wickets, Ajmal paved the way for the fast bowlers to come and inflict more pressure.
As expected, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Gul-c94604 stepped up and sent Suraj Randiv back to the dressing room with a beautiful reverse swinging delivery. The ball swung in the air and it was a simple decision for the umpire as the ball hit the batsman right on his toe. He returned to
the dressing room after collecting just a single run.
The eighth wicket fell down when Dhammika Prasad was dismissed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Junaid-Khan-c77037. A thick edge went straight into the hands of the wicket-keeper and the batsman walked out of the ground after amassing 17 runs.
From the Pakistani bowling department, Ajmal grabbed two wickets, while Gul and Junaid nabbed a scalp each in the session. As the eighth wicket fell down, the tea was taken. At the end of the session, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HMRKB-Herath-c1559
and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/UWMBCA-Welegedara-c2735 were still to come.
After enjoying their tea, the Men in Green will aim to pick up another two wickets as early as possible. Since the wicket-keeper batsman is at the wicket, the Lankan tale-enders may give some tough time to the home side.
