Pakistan v Sri Lanka Live match update- ICC World Cup 2011
UPDATE: Pakistan (277 for 7) beat Sri Lanka (266 for 9) by 11 runs.
Earlier today, the Pakistan innings stuttered in the middle overs as they lost a couple of quick wickets to put themselves under pressure thanks to some reckless cricket.
Nevertheless, it is a good sign for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, as their two premier batsmen made a solid partnership. Their stay at the crease was important for their team, as it layed a firm base for the strong late-order strikers to launch their assault.
Younis rotated the strike regularly by picking up runs at will. He kept the scoreboard ticking and looked well settled.
Meanwhile, Misbah provided his senior partner with worthy support, adding 83 runs to his team’s total.
The Sri Lankan bowlers altered their length and pulled the scoring rate down to some extent. They mixed up their lines and lengths quite nicely and didn't allow the opposition batsmen to score runs freely against them.
Rangana Herath brought his team back into the game with a brilliant spell of left-arm slow bowling, picking up 1 for 16 in four incisive overs. His arm-ball remains a very difficult delivery to get away, and sometimes, the batsmen are left clueless.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Muttiah-Muralitharan-c78157 kept things tight at one end, conceding 12 runs in four overs of off-spin. He posed all sorts of threats to opposition batsmen with his off-breaks and doosras.
The seam bowlers went around the park in the first two power-plays. Nuwan Kulasekara went for 43 in his seven overs, while Thisara Perera grabbed 1 for 29 in his five-over spell.
Earlier, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 won the toss and sent in his opening batsmen to take advantage of a batting paradise. Mohammad Hafeez and Ahmed Shehzad got Pakistan off to brisk start, adding 28 runs in five overs.
Shehzad fell for a grim 13-run score, while Hafeez kept on scoring runs at a decent pace to keep up the tempo. However, a suicidal run brought an end to a fantastic 32-run innings. Kamran Akmal played well for his 39-run innings, though gave it away by playing a rash shot.
Younis and Misbah have to put up a resilient partnership in order to steer their team to a position, from where the lower-order can have a real blast in the death overs.
For Sri Lanka, they have to break this partnership as soon as possible otherwise the Pakistani pair will take the game away from them.
