Pakistan v West Indies: A test of two inexperienced batting lineups - Part One
The first Test of the two-match series between Pakistan and West Indies will start today, May 12, 2011, at Guyana. The green shirts defeated the Caribbean team in the One Day International series 3-2 and they would love to carry that confidence in the longer
version of the game. West Indies on the other hand, would not be feeling that bad at this stage as they fought back and won the last two matches of the limited overs series.
This Test series is also going to be a big test of the inexperienced batting lineups of the two teams as both http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 and West Indies have lost the services of some of their experienced players recently.
Test cricket is the real test of a player’s caliber and the batsmen from both teams would have to occupy the crease for long hours in order to give their team a chance of victory.
West Indies does not have the services of their best player at the moment as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221 preferred to play in the Indian Premier League rather than representing his country. However, it provides an ideal opportunity to some of the younger players to stamp
their authority at the highest stage of the game.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DM-Bravo-c1386 led the West Indian batting in the limited overs series and both the youngsters impressed one and all with their extra-ordinary talent and stroke-play. Simmons and Bravo will bat in the top three and the Caribbean cricket fans
would be hoping that both of them make their mark in Test cricket and take the West Indian cricket forward.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382 understands that batting in Test cricket is totally different from limited overs cricket and the batsmen would have to stay in the middle for long hours if they are to post a competitive total on the
board.
Sammy said, "Test cricket is a different form of cricket, so we know we have to make the adjustment. We will have more time, so we will look to be patient as we execute. It's about occupying the crease and putting good totals on the
board when we bat.”
A good sign for this young team is the comeback of Shivnarine Chanderpaul who has got immense experience of international cricket under his belt. He has gone through a war of words with the West Indian cricket officials recently and would love to prove a
point in the Test series.
Chairman of the West Indies selection panel http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clyde-Godfrey-Butts-c51354 has also expressed hope that the experienced left hander will perform well in the Test series as he is a thorough professional.
"I have confidence in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/S-Chanderpaul-c2390. He has been around cricket for a long time, he has been a professional, and I think he's going to go back in there and he's going to play the game how he's supposed to play it," said Butt.
