Pakistan v West Indies - Our Batting requires improvement says Sammy
The West Indian Captain, Darren Sammy is disappointed with the performance of his batsmen in the ongoing One Day International series against Pakistan.
Sammy stressed that they should come out with a positive approach in the remaining two matches and has advised his batsmen to rotate the strike so that the Pakistani bowlers find it hard to breakthrough.
Rotation diverts attention, making it harder for bowlers to concentrate on one batsman and his mistakes.
Sammy believed if the batsmen follow the plan, they will be able to post bigger totals on board which can enable them to win matches.
"The 'dot ball' percentage has been high and we need to combat the opposition bowlers. One of our major problems has been that we have not been putting enough runs on the board. As a batting unit we hit a lot of boundaries, but we have to get better at ticking over the strike, especially against the Pakistan spinners,” said Sammy.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 won all three matches played until now.
They lost the first match by eight wickets on 23 April, 2011 at St Lucia, the second match played on 25 April, 2011 at St Lucia again, was lost by seven wickets.
They took charge of the third match on 28 April, 2011 at Barbados. The Windies shook the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Green-c60723 Caps by grabbing their initial four wickets on 49 runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972 came to rescue and took charge, he played an unbeaten knock of 62 runs and took Pakistan through to victory.
The spinners from both teams have dominated the game so far, Devendra Bishoo is on top of the list by grabbing seven wickets, Saeed Ajmal has taken six wickets, Mohammad Hafeez five and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 claimed two.
The Caribbean’s scored 221 runs for the loss of six wickets in 50 overs in the first ODI, they were bowled out on 220 runs in the second match and were restricted to 171 in the third, which was a close encounter in the end.
The West Indian batsmen have been unable to cope with the Pakistani Spinners, resuling in low totals which their bowlers could not defend.
Sammy was satisfied with the performance of his bowlers and commented, "I can't fault the bowlers," Sammy said. "They have been superb for us and brought us close to a victory in the last match. I believe if we put the runs on the board, the bowlers will do the job for us. We are looking to create winning opportunities and when we do that we have to grab it with both hands."
The fourth ODI of the ongoing series will be staged at Barbados on 2 May, 2011 and the Windies have inducted the experienced Ramnaresh Sarwan in their side to boost their batting line up. Sammy is convinced that the batting will revolve around him and they will be able to come up with positive results in the remaining two matches.
