Pakistan v Zimbabwe – 3rd One Day International – Match Recap
Pakistan 270 v Zimbabwe 242 -
Pakistan won by 28 runs
Pakistan whitewashed the three-match one-day series against Zimbabwe by winning the third and final match at Harare Sports Club on Wednesday 14 September.
After winning the toss, the hosts Zimbabwe put http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 into bat, hoping to restrict the tourists on a meagre tally in a bid to avoid another loss in the series.
However, the plan backfired as Pakistan batsmen exhibited tremendous form right from the moment they walked on the crease as openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-Farhat-c64218 wreaked havoc on the Zimbabwean bowlers by playing shots all around the park.
The two openers posted 45 runs together before Hafeez lost his wicket after scoring 23 runs off 21 deliveries when on the delivery of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Malcolm-Waller-c74039 at deep midwicket
Later, Farhat after playing an innings of 37 runs off 45 deliveries was caught in the covers by Chamunorwa Chibhabha off the bowling of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/E-Chigumbura-c1411. At the time of his departure the side had posted 76 runs on the board for the loss of two wickets.
It was then time for middle-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Asad-Shafiq-c46208 and veteran Younis Khan to dawn on the cricket field to help their side post enough runs on the board to give their bowlers a fighting chance.
The batsmen batted exceptionally well against their opposition by keeping the score board ticking which created pressure on the fielding side as the Zimbabweans knew that they needed to get a breakthrough in order to prevent Pakistan from taking the game
away from them.
The two batsmen posted 97 runs in the third wicket partnership before http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shafiq-c89281 was stumped in the 34th over when he came out of the crease while trying to flick a delivery bowled by Ray Price.
The batsman found his way back to the pavilion after scoring 51 runs off 72 deliveries.
Shoaib Malik was the next man in who after scoring 14 runs fell to his demise when he was caught and bowled by Chigumbura. By the time this wicket fell, Pakistan had managed to pile 211 runs on the board for the loss of four wickets.
Khan was then removed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kyle-Malcolm-Jarvis-c71974 who caught and bowled the batsman. Younis went back to the pavilion in 41st over after playing a juggernaut innings of 81 runs off 90 deliveries.
In the end, Pakistan ended the innings after posting 270 runs, a tally which was always going to be tough to chase against a very formidable Pakistan bowling attack.
Coming out to bat, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 needed to score without losing too many wickets, however, this was a tough task since they were up against a mighty bowling arsenal.
The Zimbabwean openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Sibanda-c2740 and Chamunorwa Chibhabha forged an inspirational opening partnership of 110 runs as they put up a stiff resistance against the opponents.
It was in the 26th over when Pakistan finally managed to earn a wicket when Sibanda after playing an innings of 59 runs was caught by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yasir-Shah-c98252.
Later fellow opener Chibhabha perished after smacking 62 runs when he was caught by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shoaib-Malik-c90088.
It was then a sad tale for the home side as the middle-order could not stand against the bowling onslaught as Zimbabwe could only bolster 242 runs in response to Pakistan’s tally.
Younis http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aizaz-Cheema-c961 was named as the Man of the Match for taking four wickets in his ten overs.
