Pakistan v Zimbabwe –
Pakistan’s Test match against Zimbabwe in the midst of controversies – Part 1
Pakistan Cricket has had its share of controversies since the advent of the national team almost sixty years ago; however, the last few years have been exceptional where the team has been entangled in one controversy after the other.
From captaincy issues to coach problems or corruption the name of Pakistan cricket finds its way to such menaces.
Nonetheless, the team some how always manages to retain its winning ways during the toughest times and the current period isn’t any different.
Pakistan cricket has been severely damaged since 2010 when three of its main players namely Test captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
The players have since been charged and banned from the game for a minimum period of five years, however, Pakistan has never been the same out fit since then and now that the spot-fixing issue is behind them there is infighting between players and the management
which saw the ouster of one-day skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) World Cup 2011, where the Men in Green were beaten by arch rivals India.
After a commendable performance in the World Cup things were expected to calm down, however, controversy struck again when Afridi developed estranged relationship with team management during Pakistan’s one-day series in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760.
Apparently the hard-hitting all-rounder was not happy with the way the management was meddling in the selection of the playing eleven. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after receiving a report from manager http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Intikhab-Alam-c64380 decided to scrap Afridi from
his captaincy.
This did not go down well with the 31-year-old Afridi who as a protest retired from international cricket and pledged not to play for Pakistan for as long as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 was the chairman of the PCB.
As if this controversy wasn’t enough, the PCB once again made headlines for all the wrong reasons by naming http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972 as the captain of the one-day team. This generated another debate as many experts were taken aback by the illogical decision for not
naming a younger guy for the job.
During this time, when the people were still debating on the captaincy issue, the coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s tour of Zimbabwe.
The former Pakistan pacer revealed that the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 series was going to be his last assignment as the coach of the national team. According to him due to medical reasons he would no longer be able work as the coach of Pakistan.
In Pakistan cricket there is always more to it than meets the eye behind such hasty decisions, it is only a matter of time when the real situation regarding Waqar’s departure will become public, however, as of now the PCB has to seek the appointment of a
new coach and probably a younger captain for the shorter versions of the game.
Coming on to the team formation for the Zimbabwe tour, the name of all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abdul-Razzaq-c41623 was missing from the squad and although the player has not announced his retirement from international cricket, the PCB is treating him like a retired cricketer.
Perhaps the board officials are oblivious of the fact that the player has done splendidly well in his County stint this year where he played for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750
this year.
