Pakistan versus http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 – 2nd Innings – Overs 0 to 20 – Report
After a brilliant bowling display from the Pakistani side, the Men in Green found themselves in a strong position to be the first side to beat the Australians since the 1999 http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 needed 177 runs in 50 overs with a required run rate of
3.54 runs per over.
Pakistani batsmen, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SW-Tait-c2616. Lee bowled magnificently from the first ball, teasing Akmal into attempting to play on the off side. Akmal was lucky when his wild swing took a thick
edge but luckily for him found its way to the boundary for Pakistan’s first four.
Australia was looking for an early breakthrough and got it in the third over when Muhammad Hafeez was send back to the pavilion. Lee had taken a magnificent catch that sent the Pakistani batsman back to the pavilion for just five runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MG-Johnson-c1945 was on the receiving end of a rude introduction by Akmal, who smashed him for two boundaries. Pakistan seemed set on their way
to winning the match at that stage. Akmal was the next to go when the on-fire Lee had him trapped leg before wicket. The keeper opted to review the decision but it stood and the Aussies had their second wicket.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Younis-Khan-c98325 and Asad Shafiq batted patiently until the 20th over, getting together a sensible 43-run partnership to put Pakistan firmly in control of the match. Younis Khan seemed to relish the circumstances, allowed to play the game at his own
pace as he defended well but when it came to having to put away loose deliveries, he was lethal. His partner, Asad Shafiq was also putting in a solid performance hitting four boundaries on his way to a sensible 34 runs.
At the end of 20 overs, the Pakistani side was 84 runs for the loss of 2 wickets. Needing 93 runs from another 30 overs, the Men in Green were well on their way with their run rate at a comfortable 4.20 runs per over against the required run rate of 3.10
runs per over. The match was so far in Pakistan’s control and they were cruising towards their target, yet Australia was still battling hard, hoping that their opponents would collapse.
