Pakistan vs Australia - is Dubai hotter than Chennai? - Opinion
Australia’s latest reservations of playing Pakistan in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 in the 2012 series, is ironic to say the least. Playing during the taxing month of August in the desert heat is considered to be too grave a deal that the Australian players
would have on their shoulders. Yet interestingly, a combination of heat and humidity in some outlandish part of the world with buckets full of cash and T20 frenzy might not be a matter of concern.
What irked the Australian Cricket Association chief http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Paul-Marsh-c81144 however, was the fact that the playing hours during the day would have created a set of security issues for the players. This was straight after proposals were sent across by the PCB to have
the games start late during the day, when the heat subsides to a great degree. Yet many of Australia’s players would actually be perfectly okay if an IPL contract was in the reckoning with millions of dollars coming their way for bashing cricket balls and
breaking sweat at the same time. Playing in the sultry conditions in the Southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu or in the humid conditions of Kolkata, would not necessarily be a stymie towards the players' well being.
What this eventually boils down to is the high profile nature of the event in contention. Surely with the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, the afternoon hours along with taxing conditions would not necessarily have a grave impact on the players,
would it? For the conspiracy theorists, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s decision to not play in the Emirates coincides with a worldwide conspiracy to strangle Pakistan cricket. Yet this in itself is a vague assumption which is not based on any concrete evidence. What irks the
impartial observer is that the heat might get to the players when conditions actually are conducive to play. World class stadiums such as the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imtiaz-Sheikh-c64290 Zayed International Cricket Stadium and the DSC Stadium would be hard to come by as far as venues are concerned.
Temperatures in Chennai can escalate from 35-40C in the Summer, and given the static nature of the weather in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Karnataka-c801, not much changes regardless of where the game is played. Yet for the Emirates, an initially, piercing, harsh and hostile
afternoon climate could have been avoided by the Australians, if the PCB proposal to have the games start in the evening was given effect. Temperatures hitting 45C tend to subside considerably as evening falls in the Gulf, which would have not only led to
an exciting encounter between a Pakistani side which is considerably strong at home and Australia, but provide a whole new dimension for cricketers who would become accustomed to playing in unfamiliar conditions.
Marsh’s claim about the series being put forward due to commercial reasons instead of cricketing reasons is thus ironic, and does not coincide with considerations to put http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 cricket back on the map. It is true that international cricket had never been
held in the UAE during the months of June, July, August or September for that matter, but the push for availing neutral venues could have been the best alternate that could be considered. For now it looks like excuses will be poured left, right, forward and
center.
