Pakistan vs Korea match underway at Sultan Azlan Shah Stadium: Mid-match Analysis
Pakistan is currently playing against Korea in the fourth match of the 20th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup, being held on the second day at the Sultan Azlan Shah Stadium in Ipoh, Malaysia today.
In the first half, Korea dominated the field with their ball possession. In the first three minutes, they managed to make it into the defensive circle of Pakistan. Korea’s Jang threw a pass at Kim, who was standing open in the circle, however, he failed
to capitalise on the opportunity and walked ball scoreless.
Pakistan picked an ace in the sixth minute by taking control of the ball and rushing towards the Korean defensive circle. Pakistan’s Zubair passed the ball towards Umar Bhutta, who failed to pick the pass sent from his left flank and the Korean goal was
left untouched. Pakistan continued with their attack but the Korean defence stood firm, denying the attempts made by Pakistan.
With ten minutes on the clock, the match was scoreless and both the teams rushed hard to open up the grid-lock. In the 12th minute, Korean attack was on a roll when they finally received their first penalty corner award. This corner was comfortably
converted by Hyun Hye Sung in the 13th minute, opening the scores at 1-0.
The Pakistan side was error prone most of the first half. During the match, they failed to clear the ball out of the 25 metre defensive range. However, in a matter of five minutes Pakistan was found near the Korean defensive circle, attempting a score when
a foul led the team in attaining their first penalty corner in the 18th minute of the match. This attempt was a failure for Pakistan when Imran missed a proper hit into the goal.
Within the next three minutes, Pakistan tried their luck again with a successful score made by the International hockey star, Rehan Butt, in the 21st minute, levelling the scores at 1-1.
The rest of the match was a fight for the lead but the intense heat made it hard for both teams. The first half closed with a levelled score at 1-1, more updates on the way with the second half in progress.
