Pakistan vs. West Indies - match four: Second Innings Report
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 have finally managed to pull off a grace saving victory in the fourth match of the ongoing five-match One-Day series against Pakistan by one run in a rain-infested match played at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados.
After restricting the tourists to 248 runs in fifty overs, Darren Sammy’s men had a lot at stake when they came out to bat and since rain had interrupted the game on more than one occasion, there was every chance that the moisture in the air would help the
spinners in the second innings.
With the current spinners in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 was hoping to wrap up the game sooner than later. However, due to the Duckworth-Lewis method the tally was reduced to 223 in 39 overs, making life a little bit easier for the hosts.
Nonetheless, Pakistan struck on the second ball of the first over of the innings as youngster Junaid http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 removed opener Kirk Edwards, who gave a slight edge right into the hands of the Pakistan wicketkeeper, Mohammad Salman. Kirk was removed on the first
ball that he faced.
Darren Bravo was the next man in and together with Simmons they smacked the Pakistan bowling all around the park. The two displayed confidence against Pakistan which they lacked in their previous outings.
By the end of the eighth over, the two batsmen had taken the score to 55 runs with only one wicket down. The way the two were clobbering the opposition it seemed that they were going to take the game away from Pakistan. This was surely an agonizing period
for Shahid Afridi as he was desperate to grab another wicket.
In the next over, pacer Junaid Khan, struck again and finally managed to break the partnership which was beginning to threaten Pakistan. Bravo, perhaps loosing focus, went for a delivery which was going wide on the off side and ended up giving an easy catch
to Tanvir Ahmed at third man. This was a horrible mistake and he never should have gone for the shot in the first place. Bravo was sent back after scoring 21 runs off 26 deliveries.
Next man in was Ramnaresh Sarwan and while he started his innings slow and steady, on the other end, Simmon was becoming a headache for the Pakistan bowlers as they just did not know where to bowl him. The batsman, who has been in tremendous form in almost
every match of the series, just keeps getting better in every game.
In the 25th over, leg-spinner Mohammad Hafeez, snatched the wicket of Sarwan who gave a catch to Junaid Khan at long-off. He scored 28 runs off 56 deliveries.
Finally an over later pacer Tanvir Ahmed also got rid of Simmons who intended to go for a big shot but ended up getting caught by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Usman-Salahuddin-c94700 at deep-point. Simmons did most of the damage in the second innings as he scored 76 runs off 70 deliveries.
His innings included four boundaries and three sixes.
With clouds hovering over Barbados, Dwayne Bravo hit a vital six on the third delivery of the 30th over bowled by Afridi. After the over, the game was stopped again because of rain and later the D/L method was put into play and it was bravo’s
six that landed the hosts their first victory in the series by a run.
Afridi must have been cursing himself for letting being hit for a six at that juncture in the game, had he not been hit, Pakistan would have won the game. Mohammad Hafeez was named the Man of the Match for scoring a century and taking a wicket in the match.
