Naveed Akram Cheema, the Manager of Pakistan cricket team, expressed that all the players and officials are delighted with the win over Sri Lanka in the first of the five-match One Day International (ODI) series at Pallekele.
After squaring the T20 series 1-1, the Green Shirts outclassed the home team with both bat and ball in the first ODI and now look firm-favourites to clinch the series.
Over the years, Pakistan have gone through a number of controversies on and off the field. However, Misbah ul Haq seems to have united this team, which is reflected in the performance of the players since the last one year.
While speaking to Pakpassion, Cheema said that the sport is about winning matches for the team and not about individual performances. The Manager claims that Pakistan’s significant improvement in international cricket is
because of the fact that the players and the officials have emphasized on team-work, instead of selfish play.
“Indeed the whole team and management are very pleased with our victory in the First ODI. It’s very heartening to see us perform in this way. It’s a team game, all players are putting in their very best and results are there to see,”
said Cheema.
The first ODI was hampered by rain as the players had to go off the field quite often. The match was later restricted to 42 overs a side. Cheema however, mentioned that his team is not focusing on the weather and the Green Shirts
are geared up to go 2-0 up in the series.
Naveed added, “We have no injury worries to speak of and the players are in best of spirits – whether the rain will have a part to play in this game is not under our control but what we can promise is that each of our players will
be putting in their best effort possible.”
The second ODI is going to be played today at the same venue, before the last three matches, which are scheduled be played in Colombo. All the analysts and former cricketers are predicting Pakistan to win the series comprehensively
because of a far superior bowling attack.
