Pakistan win fourth ODI despite poor bowling
Pakistan defeated New Zealand in the exciting fourth One Day International played at Mclean Park, Napier on 1 February, 2011. Pakistan’s Misbah-ul-Haq put in a solid performance of 93 runs to give the visitors a 2-1 lead in the series.
New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat with the hope of getting a respectable total on the board.
MJ Guptil and JM How opened the New Zealand batting, determined to get the team off to a good start. This partnership managed 40 runs in 6.4 over when Guptil was caught by Younis Khan off the bowling of Wahab Riaz. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 were unable capitalise on this
solid opening partnership and soon found themselves on the score of 79 with five down.
An excellent partnership of 62 runs between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/NL-McCullum-c2120 played brilliantly to take the score
to 205 before Franklin, with an individual score of 62 was caught off Wahab Riaz on the bowling of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482. NL McCullum took over the attack and made 53 runs at the end of 50 overs, giving New Zealand a respectable score of 262 runs.
The Pakistan bowling seemed to struggle as Sohail Tanvir gave up 67 runs in 9 overs without a wicket and bowler Umer Gul allowed 49 runs in 7 overs. The most successful bowler for Pakistan was Wahab Riaz who took 3 wickets for 51 runs in 10 overs. The visitors
gave up 19 wide balls and two no-balls, basically adding an extra 3.3 overs of extras.

Pakistan started off cautiously as their first wicket fell on 43 with Mohammad Hafeez making only 12 runs.  He was brilliantly caught by Taylor on the bowling of Bennett.  Ahmed Shahzad was the next to go, making 42 runs before getting caught by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 off
the bowling of Styris. Kamran Akmal contributed 20 runs before getting out to the bowling of Styris with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972 contributed 89 valuable runs before Younis was run out at 42. Umer Akmal made only 10 runs and Shahid
Afridi made 4.
With six wickets down, Razzaq joined Misbah at the crease to play an excellent innings. Their exciting partnership took the score to 238 as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Razzaq-c84421 was gone at 23. Wahab went for a duck with the Pakistan score at 250. Sohail Tanvir joined Misbah at this point
and smashed three boundries in the 49th over. Misbah played a lovely innings and scored 93 runs from 91 balls and stayed not out.
New Zealand shown discipline in their bowling and gave just one wide and 3 leg-byes.
Pakistan managed to win this match, but their bowling and fielding must improve if they are to win the ODI series.
