Pakistani Asim Khan defeats Rishwan Khan, clinches National under-15 junior squash title
Representing Punjab, top seed Asim Khan of Pakistan bagged the 2011 National Under-15 Junior Squash Championship title defeating Rishwan Khan, who was representing the Pakistan Airforce, 12-10, 9-11, 11-4 and 12-10. The event was held at the noted Hashim Khan
Squash Complex in Peshawar on Sunday.
The championship final was graced with the presence of Intikhab Khan Chamkani, central leader of PML (Q) apart from which, former World champion Qamar Zaman of Pakistan, International coach Mehboob Khan and Captain Farooq Ahmed, the Director of the Pakistan
Airforce Sports Control Board were also present at the event. Additionally, the championship was supervised by Asghar Khan and Samin Jan of the Pakistan Airforce.
In spite of the fact that Rishwan played equally well, Khan came to be the better professional, clinching the championship trophy. The arduous four set final started off with Rishwan taking the lead at 7-2 in the first game. However, his competitor bounced
back to level with Khan first at 7-7, then at 8-8, followed by 9-9, 10-10 and eventually taking the set based upon a 12-10 win.
Proceeding to the second set, Rishwan maintained his level of play to lead 7-3 and smashed his way into a further 9-3 lead until Asim rose in terms of his performance to level himself with Khan at 9-9, scoring six straight points against his opponent. Unfortunately
for Asim, the professional lost the set after a couple of long rallies as Rishwan took it 11-9.
Furthermore, after being tied at one game each, Asim Khan decided to fight back, taking the third set based upon an 11-4 win. Rishwan played a few smashes to get his game back into line by the deciding fourth set. The professional led at 5-1 after which he
led at 7-10 until Asim made a come back and leveled himself with Khan at 10-10, shortly after which he brought a close to the match, winning the last set, 12-10.
Conclusively, chief guest Intikhab Khan ended the event upon giving away the trophies coupled with cash prizes apart from having appreciated the effort made by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Squash Association for making the championship a success.
