Pakistani-born American businessman Shahid Khan buys NFL franchise Jacksonville Jaguars – NFL News
Pakistani-born business icon Shahid Khan has bought Jacksonville Jaguars in a multibillion-dollar deal on Tuesday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The news of selling of National Football League (NFL) franchise, the Jaguars, came a day after coach and owner Wayne Weaver assured the media that all was well with the Jaguars, for the time being at least. His assurance more specifically
concerned about the job of their coach Del Rio.
Next day, Weaver confirmed that they have fired their coach and sold the franchise. Despite that the firing of coach was being anticipated as it was projected to be long due. The news about selling of their team however shocked
all.
Weaver while confirming the deal said that it was his dream that the Jaguars should be successful in Jacksonville and he had found a right solution in form of Mr. Khan. He said Shahid Khan was truly an American success story.
"He really wanted to buy a team, and he wanted to do it here in Jacksonville. This gentleman is absolutely the American story," he said.
He said he had met Shahid khan about five years back and have become fond of him for his passion for football over the years. He said that Shahid was expected to buy a home in Jacksonville and keep the team in the city.
Meanwhile, Shahid Khan apparently being pleased to have reached a deal with the Jaguars said that he was excited to have gained ownership of the franchise.
"I am honoured to have recently signed an agreement with Wayne Weaver and his partners to purchase the Jacksonville Jaguars. I have known Wayne for some time and have long admired his spirit, which nearly 20 years ago -- against
all odds -- helped make the Jaguars and the National Football League a reality for Jacksonville and North Florida. Wayne's legacy will be lasting, and I will always be grateful for Wayne's trust and confidence in my commitment to the Jaguars, the NFL and the
people of the Jacksonville community," he said in a post-deal statement.
Weaver has reportedly signed the deal with Mr. Shahid Khan on Tuesday morning after an approval had been given by National Football League (NFL) commissioner Roger Goodell. The NFL finance committee which is expected to meet on
sixth of next month will give approval to the deal. Weaver is a part of that committee.
Following approval by NFL finance committee, all 32 franchises owners are then will vote for the deal on December 14 this year. Weaver said that he hoped the deal will have a unanimous approval.
The sale is expected to be closed by early January next year. This is second time that the Pakistani-born entrepreneur has bid for an NFL team. Mr. Khan made an unsuccessful attempt to buy St. Louis Rams last year. He is known
