Pakistani cricketers accused of spot fixing scandal- Salman Butt, Aamer meet PCB Chairman, Ijaz Butt
The Chairman of Pakistan cricket board Ijaz Butt has met two of the tainted trio of players involved in the spot fixing scandal.
Captain of the test team in England, Salman Butt and left arm fast bowling sensation Mohammad Aamer called on the head of the PCB in a closed door meeting that lasted a mere fifteen minutes, yet it is believed that the two players were briefed about the future course of action.
After the meeting, the manager of the team in England, Yawar Saeed, his assistant http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 joined Butt in what were termed by sporting circles in the country decisive meetings where future course of action was planned.
The PCB is in the middle of a crisis like situation, as the spot and match fixing scandal rolls on. Besides this, the Chairman is contemplating an answer against the legal notice served on him by English players after Butt accused them of deliberately throwing away the third ODI of the recently concluded series that the hosts won by a narrow margin of 3-2.
Butt has a lot on his plate, there are growing speculations in the media that the veteran chairman and former test player is on his way out and is set to be replaced by former captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ehsan-Mani-c55791.
It appears that Zaheer Abbas has the political clout that will help him get the nod from the president of the country Asif Ali Zardari, who is responsible for nominating the head of the cricket board.
Zaheer Abbas however is not being hailed as the right choice as he has hardly proved to be a sound administrator whenever he has taken a role in the cricket board.
He was the manager of the team when the Oval fiasco took place in 2006, resulting in Pakistan forfeiting a match that they had in their grips. Subsequently the PCB had to pay compensation to the host board for the pull out and to date it remains the only instance of a team forfeiting a test match in more than 120 years of test cricket.
While the change at the helm remains on the cards, the Butt administration it appears is making last ditch efforts of resurrecting the fledgling image of the organization both in Pakistan and in the international cricket community.
The meetings today are another step in that direction as Yawar Saeed presents his tour report to the Chairman.
Over the years, Yawar Saeed has remained the right hand man of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 and has helped him take some important decisions that have shaped the cricketing affairs in the country.
There were reports that the veteran manager would tender in his resignation to Butt, yet it remains to be seen when the decision arrives.
In addition, present today at the Qaddafi stadium is the chairman of the selection committee Mohsin Khan who is there to work out a strategy for the selection of the team for the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 that is set to take place in UAE next month.
For the time being, the three players’ part of the spot fixing probe Salman Butt, Mohammad Aamer and Mohammad Asif remain suspended. There suspension orders were made by the ICC.
The test for Mohsin and his selectors is to select a team that would take the field in two tests against the Proteas.
In the absence of the trio, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 is set to struggle even though conditions in the UAE are similar to their homeland.
