Pakistani players appreciate BCCI’s initiative of felicitating their former players – Cricket News Update
Former Pakistani skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s (BCCI) step of awarding one-time benefit payments to ex-Test and First-class cricketers of their country. The compensation awards were handed out in a ceremony which was held before the second IPL Qualifier, on Friday May 25 at Chennai.
The board has distributed cheques ranging from Rupees three crores to fifteen crore among the former cricketers – an incentive which clearly reflects the success of the Indian Premier League.
Moin believes that the BCCI has taken a positive step, recognizing the valuable contributions of the former national players. He further admired board’s concern for former First-class players, whose contributions are only limited to the domestic level, and tend to get ignored and overshadowed by the so-called renowned international players.
"The amount distributed as benefit amounts among the former players is very respectable and I really appreciate this step taken by the Indian board," the former wicket-keeper batsman.
In Pakistan, there is a Pension scheme, which is in place to help the retired players, however, is seen as an ineffective model of aiding the country’s former yesteryear greats. Moin has therefore urged the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB) to help the national players in a similar manner, allowing past cricketers to stabilize their weak financial positions.
"The Board should introduce regular benefit amount schemes for our players because many of them require financial help and need to be supported at this stage of their life," said Moin.
Another former Green Shirts’ Test player and sports analyst Basit Ali has also welcomed the BCCIs move of benefiting their former players from the proceeds collected from the on-going Indian Premier League’s play-off matches. According to the 41-year-old, the success of the IPL is the major reason for the Indian board’s money incentive scheme.
"At the end of the day whatever one might say, the IPL is indirectly also benefiting former Indian players. To give benefit amounts to former players who have just played first class cricket is indeed a big step taken by the Indian board," said the veteran before going on to insist that it is now up to the PCB to organize a similar league in their own country, and come out with ways to facilitate their own cricketing heroes.
