Pakistani players gear up for trial sessions – Cricket News Update
Pakistan’s foreign coaching panel have set their sights on improving the fielding of the national team and have summoned a trial session at the National Cricket Academy, where players, junior and senior, will take part in an extensive training regime and
will be assessed accordingly.
According to the national team head coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Davenell-Frederick-Whatmore-c52571 and fielding mentor Julien Fountain, the purpose of arranging such fitness sessions is to identify and analyze the weak areas of the Men in Green and bring about the necessary improvements.
“The process will take two to three days to complete. All the players including the seniors and juniors will have to undergo the fitness test,” told PCB director http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Intikhab-Alam-c64380.
The former coach further told that the trials will be carried out under the direct supervision of Whatmore and will be assessed by Fountain, after which both will present their report to the selection committee. The panel had earlier made it clear that the
sole criteria of selection into the national team hinges on a player's fitness, along with his performances, rather than seniority.
Meanwhile, the board’s officials have also floated the idea of arranging practice matches between youngsters and the experienced lot. This will provide a good opportunity for young players to showcase their talent and impress the national selectors, who
remain keen on finding new talent for various formats.
The idea first came into prominence under former chief selector, Abdul Qadir’s reign, who considered practice matches a better way of gauging the upcoming generation of cricketers as opposed to training camps. However, Alam revealed that the plan is still
under consideration as PCB is yet to give formal backing to such a proposal.
“It is being discussed but nothing is confirmed on it for the time being,” told Alam.
With the Men in Green renowned for their fielding malfunctions, the trial sessions are expected to help the players in their upcoming busy cricketing schedule where they will play http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in August and
a World Twenty20 Cup in September.
