Pakistan’s Amateur Golf team drops to 53 ranking after World Amateur Golf Team Championship
The World Amateur Golf Team Championship took place on Sunday at the Buenos Aires golf course in Argentina. With France winning the title, this event has altered World rankings of amateur teams.
Pakistan entered the Championship in 47th position but has dropped down to 53rd position now that the event is over. With all the teams struggling for the Eisenhower Trophy, the World Championship was surely interesting to follow.
The length of the tournament was dwindled by making it only three rounds due to the stormy weather that engulfed South America last weekend. Pakistan is the only country that had the same team it had in 2008. The Pakistani team consisted of Muhammad Safdar
Khan, Hamza Taimur Amin, and Muhammad Ali Hai. All the men finished in the 47th position in 2008.
This team was established by the Pakistan Golf Federation secretary Taimur Hassan. With Hassan and the Pakistani people expecting a lot from the team, things didn’t quite go as planned. The Pakistani men gave a disappointing performance this year. Safdar
carded 75-82-78 for a total of 235 in the three rounds. Ali Hai posted 79-77-82 for a total of 238 with Hamza Amin scoring 76-85-84 for 345.
On the first day, the Pakistani team had 151, 159 in the second round and 160 in the third round. With a grand total of 470 at the end of the final round, these South Asian men were not too happy with the way they golfed.
Now, having done worse than before, the team is set to return to Pakistan today by Qatar Airways.
The winning team, France, had a 7-under-par 243 that readily earned them the Eisenhower Trophy. France was ahead of Denmark by four strokes and it was ahead of America by five strokes. French Johann Lopez-Lazao and Alexander Levy posted even pars on Sunday
to drive their country to victory.
However, Denmark attained its first medal in the championship. The United States now has 23 medals with top 10 finishes in all 27 competitions. Even though not triumphant this time around, the Americans have always brought their good game to the World championships.
With France currently taking the lead, the amateur golfers are no less than the pros. They are young, they are talented and they are more enthusiastic than ever. All the men who participated in the championship have a bright future ahead and hopefully they
will make use of their talent.
