Pakistan’s Shahram Changezi beats Zhang Anda in thrilling final frame – 2011 World Snooker Q School
Pakistan’s professional snooker player Shahram Changezi has beaten Zhang Anda by a frame score of 4-3 in the best-of-seven frame match in Event 2 of the 2011 World Snooker Q School.
This event is being held at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
The Chinese Anda who in the event 1 outplayed the likes of Alex Taubman, David Portman, Thepchaiya Un-Nooh and Kyren Wilson crashed out. Meanwhile for Changezi, it was an accomplishing performance as he held his nerves to edge past the heavily favourite
player in the final deciding frame.
The overall score line between both players was 59-57 (Zhang 34), 73-40, 24-89 (Zhang 39, 36), 1-59 (Zhang 52), 2-113 (Zhang 109), 67-0 (Changezi 34) and 63-16 (Changezi 44).
First chance in the opening frame fell for the Chinese but he could only manage a break of 34. A bout of safety play was seen afterwards among the players and in the end, it was Changezi who came on top to have the first blood 1-0. He also took the second
frame without doing anything outstanding to further extend his lead by 2-0.
In the third frame Anda, who was playing slow otherwise, bounced back into the game with all of his zeal, energy and strength and won three frames in a row to turn his two-frame deficit into a one-frame advantage at 2-3.
He won the third frame with a couple of quick fires 39 and 36 before mopping up a frame-winning break of 52 in the fourth to level the things at 2-2. The fifth frame was over within a blink of an eye, as Anda knocked in an overwhelming century break of 109
in it.
It looked as if Anda was going to secure a place in the next round but everyone was left flabbergasted when Changezi clawed his way back and clinched the sixth and seventh frames to seal his victory. He also enjoyed modest breaks of 34 and 44 in the meanwhile.
Shahram Changezi will now face Adam Duffy in the round two and hopefully it will turn out to be a promising match.
