Pakistan’s Sohail Abbas privileged with Category A in central contract – Hockey News
Sohail Abbas, the World record penalty corner specialist, has been awarded Category A in the central contract from the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) which has announced the names of the 24 players that are given the central contract which is effective
from July 1 to November 30. The national team will play a test match series against the Kookaburras besides taking part in the three-nation nine-a-side International Super Hockey Series.
“The PHF executive board in its meeting in Lahore on September 23 has approved performance-based central contracts for 24 players. This incentive programme will be applicable to the players with effect from July 1 till November 30,” a PHF official stated
about the central contract.
The veteran player has been included in the training camp for the upcoming Australian tour and the Champions Trophy hockey tournament in Auckland, New Zealand, after a shaky performance by the national side in the recently held Asian Champions Trophy in
China. The Greenshirts lost to India in the final in spite of earning seven penalty corners in the final match. The Greenshirts could not convert even a single penalty corner into a goal.
“Our players failed to avail penalty corners in Asian Champions Trophy and therefore we must now bring Sohail Abbas back to bolster our penalty corner department,” former Olympian Hanif Khan, the national Chief Selector, admitted the fact while announcing
the 25 probable’s for the Australian Tour last week.
The players have been divided into four categories as players in Category A will receive Rs. 50,000 each, Category B will receive Rs. 40,000 each, Category C will be get Rs. 30,000 each and the Junior category will be awarded Rs. 15,000 each.
Following are the players with different contract categories.
Category A:
Sohail Abbas, Waseem Ahmed, Rashid Mehmood, Fareed Ahmed, Shakeel Abbasi, Muhammad Imran and Muhammad Waqas.
Category B:
Muhammad Rizwan Senior, Abdul Haseem Khan and Muhammad Irfan
Category C:
Muhammad Zubair, Shafqat Rasool, Imran Shah, Syed Kashif Shah, Muhammad Tousiq, Syed Muhammad Rizwan Junior, Ali Shan and Muhammad Umar Bhutta.
Category Junior:
Tasawwar Abbas, Muhammad Suleman, Muhammad Irfan, Muhammad Bilal Qadir, Muhammad Umair and Mazhar Abbas
