The flamboyant former wicketkeeper from Pakistan, Rashid Latif has expressed his utter disappointment over the remarks made by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman regarding the cricket facilities in China.
Latif said that he did not agree with the chairman that the facilities in China were not good enough to hold any international fixture or the Asia Cup in 2012.
He defended the Guangzhou stadium for its outstanding facilities. Latif said that Guangzhou had just hosted the cricket event during the Asian games which has proved that the ground can host any international tournament.
The legendary wicketkeeper said, “And I don't see any reason why Mr Butt failed to spot this during his stay in the Chinese city to witness a cricket match during the recent Asian Games, I have no doubt in my mind that after constructing a few more practice
pitches the centre in Guangzhou will even outshine the best stadiums of Pakistan."
Earlier, The PCB Director General http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Javed-Miandad-c66580 had sent a letter to the PCB urging to use China as a neutral venue for Pakistan’s home events. Javed had praised the standard of cricket facilities in the country and was convinced that China would be the
best place for Pakistan to play with foreign countries because at the moment no country is prepared to tour Pakistan after the Sri Lankan team was ambushed in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/March-c74391 last year by suspected terrorists which left eight Pakistanis dead and six Sri Lankans injured.
However, Javed’s recommendations were blown out of the sky by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 the chairman PCB, who believes that the facilities in China are not yet up to the standards of hosting any sort of international cricket event. Butt was nevertheless, hopeful that in
years to come China may become a good location for cricket.
Butt said, “It is not possible to play our home series in China in the near future, various things come under consideration when it comes to international cricket. China need time to establish infrastructure of international standards.”
Latif, however, believes that there is no one more experienced than Javed Miandad in the country and his suggestions shouldn’t have been straight forwardly rejected by the PCB chairman. He believes that if Javed thinks that the facilities in China are good
enough then the board should have seriously taken his recommendations under consideration.
