Pakistan's tennis champ Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi appointed United Nations Goodwill Ambassador

The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Yousuf Raza Gilani announced that Pakistan's Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi has been elected as the United Nations Development Project National Goodwill Ambassador.

Upon being appointed, Qureshi stated, "I am honoured to become a Goodwill Ambassador for UNDP in Pakistan. I have been very fortunate in life to pursue my passion for tennis. It is important for me to help people who lost everything because of the floods to
get back on their feet."
One of Qureshi's first objectives will be to raise funds for the 20 million flood-affected Pakistanis. The professional will furthermore be assisting the UNDP to enhance their image in Pakistan apart from helping them out with
various projects.
In addition, Aisam said, “I would like to personally thank the Bryan brothers for their most generous donation to the flood victims of Pakistan. The Bryan Brothers Foundation’s assistance has already been transferred to families
in dire need.”
Qureshi also founded the 'Haq Foundation' in the year 2003. The foundation is a non-profit charity based organization. The Association of Tennis Professionals helped the victims of the earthquake in Pakistan. The professional is
the first ever Pakistani athlete to have been appointed Goodwill Ambassador. Aisam is amongst the likes of David Beckham, Lionel Messi, Pau Gasol and Max Mirnyi.
"We are very proud of Aisam's achievements on the court, but we are most proud of his efforts to help his country in these challenging times. We greatly appreciate the attention of the professional tennis community thinking of
Pakistan while so many of its people continue to suffer," said Mr. Syed Dilawar Abbas, president of the Pakistan Tennis Federation.
Apart from being the keynote speaker at a number of UNDP events, Aisam will visit the flood affected areas and families. The sportsman is also a member of the 'Champions for Peace club' which consists of athletes that are committed
to serve peace around the world through sports. The club was founded by a Monaco based Organization known as 'Peace and Sport.'

Having spoken up for his country at the 2010 U.S. Open Men's doubles final stating that Pakistanis are not terrorists and having said that he was pleased to have brought happiness to his fellow countrymen during the floods, Qureshi seems to be fit for the job
and will definitely not disappoint Pakistan.
