Pakistani all-rounder, Mohammad Hafeez is extremely happy after his match-winning performance against Zimbabwe in the only Test match of the tour and said that his hard-work has paid off.
The Green Shirts defeated Zimbabwe by a handsome margin of seven wickets in the Test match played at Bulawayo between 1st and the 5th of September, 2011.
Hafeez was declared as the Player of the Match for his brilliant performance with both bat and ball. At one stage of the game, it looked as if the game is heading towards a draw but Pakistan team bounced back in a superb fashion and dismantled the home team.
The tone was set by Hafeez as he scored a fascinating century in the first innings, which laid the platform for a Pakistani victory.
The all-rounder feels satisfied after his performance as it helped his team greatly. Hafeez revealed that he made the best use of the last three months, when the Green Shirts had an off-season in International cricket.
He said, "I am very happy and satisfied, we were away from international cricket for three months, we worked hard in the training camp. My plan was to play aggressively, I thought that if I played out too many balls, it would bring pressure on me.”
The opening batsman made his International debut in 2003, but failed to cement his place in the team. He has so far played 18 Test matches, 79 One Day Internationals and 22 T20 Internationals for his country, in which his batting average is not up to the
mark but the right hander has been an integral part of Pakistan team since last one year and has impressed with consistent performances.
Hafeez also claimed four crucial scalps in the second innings of the match to help his team bowl out the Zimbabweans. He admired the fast bowlers for their hard work and also appreciated the groundsmen for preparing such a brilliant wicket.
“My bowling is up to the team requirement, I will give credit to the fast bowlers. The captain used me really well. It was a good Test wicket, the more you play on such pitches, you learn," Hafeez added.
