Zulqarnain Haider, who fled to England after receiving death threats, was unlikely to be featured in the fifth and deciding One Day International against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 at Dubai.
Reports suggested that Haider was about to get dropped in the fourth ODI and Umar Akmal was on the verge of taking his place as a wicket keeper, but an ankle injury prevented the younger Akmal to be a part of the team in the penultimate game.
Pakistan Cricket Board’s chairman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 spoke to the wicket keeper to confirm the whole debacle, which led him to disappear from Dubai and to apply for asylum in England.
Furthermore, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to UK, Wajid Shamsul Hassan, who met the 24-year old player in anticipation to offer him some assistance, was also contacted by the PCB chief over the whole scenario.
Haider told a local news channel about his contact with the cricket board’s chief to look into the matter. He also said that the purpose to contact him was to reveal the fact, which led him to do what he did. A fact-finding committee has been made to get
into the details of the whole scenario. The tribunal comprises of Pakistan’s team manager Intikhab Alam, Security advisor Colonel Najam and a senior board member Subhan Ahmed.
It is still not clear about his fleeing to England to seek asylum. He has already told everyone that he was approached by a strange man, who wanted him to fix matches against South Africa and when Haider refused he received death threats.
The Pakistani player was approached by a so-called bookie, prior to the fourth ODI, in which he made an unbeaten 19 runs to steer his team to victory. PCB’s Legal Advisor, Taffazul Rizvi was asked the question by press reporters that why did he flee just
before the final game.
Moreover, Taffazul in reply said, “In our culture, when are you worried about your family's safety, you run to their side, whereas he has run to a different country", Rizvi told a
local newspaper in London.
