I heard from a freind that pale skin is liked a lot more in areas like england and france. And that some people in european countries even dislike tans. Now i being a resident of the United States -yes i admit a very stupid and prideful country at points- where a tanned skin is usually liked more than pale skin have a hard time believing this! So my question for European citizens is this... Is that true? Is a pale skin better than a tan skin to you and other European people?

Please only people from or originating from Europe answer!

  2. in England people like a tan but we don't get a lot of sun. i guess some people might like to be pale but you may find its just the same in your country

  3. I live in england, and the only reason I like pale mor ethan tanned, is because its not nearly sunny enough here to get much of a tan. So its either usually fake (and rather orange) or you've been abroad way too much.

And theres the whole sunbed addiction, which is rather trashy. And again, orange.

  4. I'm an American who's been living in the UK for eight years.  Reflecting on your question, I'd be more inclined to say that pale skin isn't perceived with negativity rather than that it is the sought-after look.

There are still plenty of people with tans (from tanning beds or going abroad on holiday and returning with a tan) who receive compliments on their golden skin.  There are also plenty of women here who hold onto the notion that being tan and blonde (the classic California look) is what is "beautiful" and will go to a lot of trouble to attain that look.

Generally speaking, though, the vast majority of folks don't go out of their way to tan - and also don't garner themselves nicknames like "Casper" or "ghost" due to being pale or fair-skinned.

  5. I'm English and having a tan doesn't really bother me. If I get one in summer then great, if I dont then its not a problem. I wouldn't ever feel the need to buy tanning products or go to a salon to get a tan.

  6. I am all american, and I love the surfer girl blonde and tan look, especially if they are naturally brunnette, but I am also a big fan of parisian palour, pale skin looks great on almost anyone. Long term, tanning is not good for aging.
