The Bianconeri chief insists that he will be keeping aside personal memories in the match that is decisive for Udinese’s standings in Serie A.
Palermo holds a particular significance for Francesco Guidolin, as the tactician had four different stints at the Stadio Barbera. The Rosanero’s first promotion to Serie A after 30 in 2004 was a special moment for both the club and the manager, but the coach
was continually hired and fired by the temperamental Palermo President, Maurizio Zamparini.
The Zebrette chief admits that the game is a special meaning for him, but maintained that the club’s ambition will always be put ahead of the personal emotions for his former club. The manager urged his side to give the best in the game in order to get a
good result and climb the Serie A Standings towards the crucial third position in the league.
While talking to the press, the former Parma manager said:
“Tomorrow’s game is important, above all for the table, and we must do everything possible to get a good result. I am thinking only about this. Memories and the past are important, but they are also personal. Now all that matters is Udinese and the standings.”
The coach also thanked Zamparini for extolling him and his work, but humbly stated that the players deserve the real credit for the unprecedented success attained by the club. He returned the courtesy stating that he has enjoyed many joyous moments at Palermo,
and keeps good memories of the club and his relationship with the president.
The Bianconeri manager insisted that Palermo are a strong side especially at home, and their season’s success has been built around their splendid form at home. The former Palermo boss insisted that the Bianconeri boast a quality squad, and their poor away
performances is the only factor keeping the club down.
Interestingly it was the Guidolin that got Delio Rossi fired from Palermo after his side humiliated them 7-0 last year. Rossi’s replacement, Coach Bortolo Mutti, is under a lot of pressure after securing just one point from the last four matches, and a loss
at the hand of Udinese can see the new manager sacked as well. However, the Zebrette coach was all in praise for the opposition’s chief.
“Lino is an excellent Coach, but our line of work is precarious. I remain convinced he has broad shoulders and can overcome these difficult moments.”
Palermo will play Udinese in their next Serie A game of the season.
