Question:

Palin vs. Obama... the experience question?

Palin seems to have a track record of pushing for change as a Governor... and actually seeing it happen.

Obama seems to have no track record for making change happen in his role as a US Senator. Well, he talks a lot about it... but I don't see any proof that his inspiring words actually result in change.

We're looking for a politician that can CREATE change... and not just TALK about it. Why are we so willing to trust Obama if he doesn't have 1/2 the results and experience with change that Palin has? What has he done other than co-sponsor some bills that no one has ever heard of? Where is the leader? Is he just a talker?

  1. barak hussein is a fraud who can talk pretty when he is reading off a telepromter other then not he sounds like the idiot he is "umm umm umm umm"

  2. lol, you must be part of the GOP!

Yes Obama is a talker- have you ever really listened.?

He explains the rationale behind his thinking and views thus you know why he would make certain decisions.

If you Americans would actually like to learn something, and be kept informed, choose Obama

Unlike the authoritarian Old Party where they just keep passing laws to make themselves richer.

You can choose McCain on blind faith as you so willingly have done for the past 8 yrs and remain ignorant to what is really going on in the world.

I feel extremely frightened as to what the pair (McCain and Palin) might do if elected, and I live in Canada.

Because if your country falls, it will affect us, and the rest of the world.

    Open your eyes.

  3. let's see...

one has commanded their local neighborhood watch group..take a bit out of crime ruff

the other is the commander of the alaskan national guard warding off the russian invadors

  4. The answer is Obama vs. McCain in experince

  5. Palin isn't running against Obama, McCain is.

Ms. Palin is running against Biden.

Obama is a candidate right now - he can only talk about change - actions come after Jan. 20, 2009!

  6. She has 20 months as a govenor of Alaska. she was sworn in on Dec 4 2006. BEFORE that she was mayor of a town of 5000

    now Obama

A graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, where he served as president of the Harvard Law Review, Obama worked as a community organizer and practiced as a civil rights attorney before serving in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004. He taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School from 1992 to 2004. Following an unsuccessful bid for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2000, he announced his campaign for the U.S. Senate in January 2003. After a primary victory in March 2004, Obama delivered the keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in July 2004. He was elected to the Senate in November 2004 with 70% of the vote.

As a member of the Democratic minority in the 109th Congress, he helped create legislation to control conventional weapons and to promote greater public accountability in the use of federal funds. He also made official trips to Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. During the 110th Congress, he helped create legislation regarding lobbying and electoral fraud, climate change, nuclear terrorism, and care for returned U.S. military personnel. After announcing his presidential campaign in February 2007, Obama emphasized withdrawing American troops from Iraq, energy independence, decreasing the influence of lobbyists, and promoting universal health care as top national priorities.

  7. What experience does Palin have in foreign policy?

  8. Agreed; after delving into the seemingly endless list of potential VPs, I kept thinking what a wonderful choice Palin would make but it'll never happen.  Well, I was wrong in that it did happen and that gives me a lot more confidence in Senator McCain.

As per useful experience, Palin has been a governor for two years - actually in charge of a sovereign state - and Obama has spent the equivalent of five months in the Senate where he was in charge of nothing more then his own staff.  We have to ask, do we want real change from real outsiders or promises of change from Washington party-line insiders?

  9. Yes, you are right, he is all talk not action.  Sarah Palin is just the opposite!

  10. one can argue that NO ONE is ready to be president

  11. Yes but there is a VERY big difference between the VP and the actual President.  While I might like a VP with more experience ...I wouldn't accept a president with as little as the senator.

  12. Why are you limiting this to his role as a US Senator?  Does state senator not count?  Surely, if it doesn't, then we shouldn't count Palin's experience as mayor of a small city?

There are lots of possible answers to your question(s), but I'll stick to two examples from one category: ethics reform.

Obama introduced and got passed the first ethics and campaign finance law in Illinois in 25 years.  The Washington Post said the law made Illinois "one of the best in the nation on campaign finance disclosure."

In the US Senate, Obama co-authored a lobbying reform law, The Legislative Transparency and Accountability Act, which restricted use of lobbying gifts and required Congress people to disclose the names of lobbyists who "bundle" contributions for them (which is a way that many politicians try to hide who is giving them money).  The final bill passed the Senate 96-2.

An initial skeptic of the bill accused Obama of playing partisan politics.  When Obama wrote the critic to explain his position, the critic soon responded, "I concluded your professed concern for the institution and the public interest was genuine and admirable. Thank you for disabusing me of such notions."  That (former) critic was John McCain.

Again, these two bills are just small examples in one category, ethics reform.  There's lots of information out there about how Obama has done more than just "talk."  Just because we're all so jaded now about good speaking skills doesn't mean that's all someone has to offer.

  13. Palin DOES NOT have a record of change. That is a myth. She has only helped draft one piece of legislation about an oil pipeline. That is almost nothing.

  14. Your right!! He's full of c**p and half the people out their are buying into it. McCain and Palin are the way to go.

  15. Obama has done literally nothing politically except give a few speeches.  Ms Palin is much more qualified than him

  16. Wow I thought that is what senators do... co sponsor and present bills to become law??? confused.. Hec, I learned that on ABC Kids Rock back in the 80's-90's, I guess you think that last governor was so qualified.. GWB... NOT and he went to the big IVY League school and had two runs as governor of Texas and still don't know his hand from his foot in his mouth..

I am sorry a degree in political science, law, Social/Business Administration.. are offered by instituations for a reason.. It's called politics.. I guess you never read that part of the employment application that says if you have a bach you need 8 years of experience but if you have a master's your degree counts for 6 years and we only require 2 years of experience.. OH Dang, you never got past Beauty and Community College.. that's the problem.. maybe mechanics school.. Now there is nothing wrong with attending those fine institutions but when talking above your level.. Don't it shows your ignorance..

  17. What change has she brought that anyone knows about. Being Anti - Big Oil and you are the Gov. of Alaska is kinda like putting a screen door on a Submarine.

  18. "A leader is only as great as the people he leads". That is one quote I heard this week. Another is "Great Leaders, are born as such." According to this, it seems to me that this whole election should be about just that, leadership.  Not who has more experience, or who did this or didn't do that.  Why don't we all just sit back and really listen to each candidate speak, and then from our hearts ask ourselves, "Was I moved?" and "Could I actually let this person lead me?" I have done this all the past week. Now I'll spend the next week, hearing the other side.  I've been listening all along, and I am just about there with my

decision. After I have heard the republican side, I will search my heart and soul with the same questions, and I'll finally have my answer. Come November, I will vote, and I'll be satisfied with that vote.

  19. You only have to compare results.  Look at Obamas District in Chicago. He was elected ( without competition of "course" ) based on a platform of "drug, gangs, violence and poverty" eradication. Simple. Check the National Crime Statistics Bureau and you will see Obama NEVER had ANY impact at all. The rates remained as high AFTER he was elected and have remained steady since.  He has NO success record to fall back on.  Why ? Because then, just like now, he has no substance and NOTHING more than words.  McCain could promise every citizen a new car after his election and not be able to deliver.  Obama promises "everything to everybody" and some people believe his "words", just like Chicago did.

  20. If McCain honestly cared about experience -- or for that matter, about the good of the country -- he never would have chosen Palin.  There are at least 10,000 more qualified people in his party.  10,001 if you count Lieberman.

Now the Republicans are stuck with a candidate they never considered in their worst nightmares.  So, what do you do?  Take the lemon and try to make lemonade.

The official line is that Palin's 18 months of "executive" experience trumps Obama's 12 years in congress (not to mention his career in law and community organizing), and that a B.S. in Journalism from U. of Idaho is more valuable than a Harvard law degree.

It's the best you can do, so I say, go with it.

  21. Let's see...

Palin has a bachelor's degree in Journalism.

Obama has a law degree from Harvard, and he graduated magna *** laude.

EDIT:  Actually I'm working on my political science degree.  Doing makeup and hair just pays my bills through college, so you don't have to pay back my grants later on.

  22. well put.

  23. palin have 2 yrs executive experience

    obama has zero

Palin has a record of change, obama only got speeches about change.

    Mccain/Palin 2008
