i went to the orthodontist/dentist the other day and im going to get braces soon( first i go the spacers and then the molar bands) my dentist never tells me what he is going to do the next appointment or what he just did to my mouth so now i have to ask every time... a few days ago he puts some thing in my mouth and said i have to keep it for 20 mins then he will glue it ( it was a pallet expander) i go in the waiting room and all my spit it all caught in it and when i speak to o mom she just laughed cause i sounded really funny so i began to laugh to .... then i remembered that i had my first day of school the next day and if i started to talk to my teachers like this who knows what they would do... long story short i told my dentist i don't want it yet because i couldn't even bite.. down... im going to get them on a Friday so i have sat and sun to get used to them.. is this enough time?

  1. I got mine about two months ago (I still have it, AND braces), and it never actually hurt me.

    Yes, I have a lisp..

But it is funny for the first couple of days because your tongue and mouth are getting used to having something new in your mouth.

Trust me in a week, you won't know it's there...

The only deal about the thing is the food gets stuck up there and is such a nuisance. And you will get a gap between your teeth if whoever is turning your expander is doing it correctly.

  2. haha i have one

just get it lol you get used to it like 3 days u stop talking really funny after 1 and a half then like on ur third day u start to talk normal but it still take time o and u arn't getting braces right off if ur getting ur palet expander cause it takes a while and u need to or ur otho docter needs to turn a key then when its big they have it sit for 8 weeks soooo its going to be a while i am getting mine off in 6 days and and braces on in 8!!!!!!!!! wow right?

well good luck it is really all worth while...i promise :)

  3. I got mine several years ago, but I remember hating it! It was the kind that you crank at night so it expands, it was very uncomfortable, BUT the upside was I was able to speak normally with it in a few days!
