FC Sevilla goalkeeper, Andres Palop, believes their rivals, Real Betis, are the favourites for this weekend’s Seville derby.
This time around, Betis are the team that have the upper hand over their city rivals who have overshadowed them for a long time.
The Beticos are enjoying a flying start to their La Liga campaign this season as they now sit on the 4th spot while Sevilla are languishing on the 10th position in the table.
That is why, at least on paper, Palop believes Betis are the favourites this Sunday. He admits that although they have the home advantage, it will count to nothing when it comes to the derby game.
“Going by the table, Betis are favourites. Playing at home gives us a small advantage, but in a derby favouritism is put to one side.”
The shot-stopper has also shared his opinion on the reaction of their coach, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michel-c25453, who got angry with his players after their 2-1 loss to Athletic Bilbao last weekend.
The 39-year-old also feels that the Rojiblancos boss was right in his frustration and believes he has the right to be angry in this manner.
“We observe what we are told. The coach is right; he sees the team every day.”
The Sevilla derby has seen so many controversies in recent years, but the keeper is now trying to focus on the positive side of this fixture. He pointed out who he considers to be their main threat and has urged his team-mates to be extra vigilant.
“It's a great rivalry that everyone notes on the calendar. They have http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Castro-c8590, Salva Sevilla and Benat [Extaberria], who is showing great virtues, so we must be especially vigilant on the edge of the box.”
Finally, the veteran commented on the experience of the derby game and mentioned that everyone wants to just enjoy the game and the atmosphere.
“You cannot miss the identity of Seville; you feel the breath of the fans. Nobody wants any violence, but an animation healthy and strong.”
Sevilla will surely go for the win in this fixture in order to improve their ranking on the table and catch derby rivals, Betis.
