Pam Benka picked to become President of England Golf in 2013
Pam Benka has been picked to become the President of England Golf for 2013, according to a press statement recently released.
Pam is the former captain of Curtis Cup, as she represented the Great Britain & Ireland against the United States.
Analysts have said that the nomination of Pam Benka is a good move by English golf patrons, and the sport will flourish by the day.
According to the details, the decision to select the President Elect of England Golf was made following the demise of Pam’s husband Peter.
Peter, who was a prominent figure in English golf and also represented his country in the Walker Cup, was set to become the President of English Golf Union.
Observers said that Pam’s selection will prove beneficial for both men and women’s golf. They pointed out that women’s golf is struggling to find a foothold in the region, and taking the former Curtis Cup captain on board is a step in the right direction.
England Golf is a merger of the English Women’s Golf Association and EGU (English Golf Union).
Officials said that after officially taking over responsibilities, Pam will be overseeing both entities.
Speaking to the media about her selection for the President Elect of England Golf, Pam said that she is happy to be picked, she will try to bring the much-needed changes to golf — particularly women’s golf.
Analysts have also said that women’s golf in England has a vast potential. They said that Curtis Cup is going to be held in the next few weeks and a strong management to oversee the sport’s affair is the need of the hour.
Pam said that she knows that both the circuits, men’s and women’s, need a solid strategy.
She pointed out that she has years of experience in golf and she is well aware of what can be done to prop up the sport in Great Britain.
"I am very honoured and privileged to be asked to do this job," she said. "It's very exciting to be involved with our new organisation, which brings together men's and women's golf".
She said that in addition to women’s golf, men’s circuit will also be promoted in the country.
"I have been involved with women's golf all my life and, through Peter, I was fortunate to see the men's side. I hope it will all stand me in very good stead".
